Pacifica’s Parent Participation Agreement With Families

As members of our parent participation school, every family in the Pacifica Community has committed to volunteer a minimum of 3.5 hours per week. Your child’s enrollment packet includes a three page section where you can sign up for specific jobs (or suggest one – the list is still growing). Some can be accomplished entirely from home.

We request three hours per week per family on curriculum-related projects. These include: developing or leading electives and workshops, assisting teachers with projects, workshops and in the classroom, mentoring and tutoring and supporting student research, providing classroom support, material preparation, set up, clean up and other class assistance not requiring actual class time.

When a parent signs up for an in-class project, they are expected to keep their commitment. If the parent is unable to work his/her scheduled day, he/she is required to arrange a swap with another parent. Each family may also sign up for one alternate day per month when he/she will be on call to come in to help on campus. A family may use the alternate calendar to find a substitute for his/her workday when the member or his/her child is ill or faces other emergencies.

Although our goal is 100% participation, we understand all parents may not meet these expectations. If you are unable to meet your commitment please make arrangements with the chairperson of the parent participation committee or the director.

All adult family members can help fulfill this commitment. As you may know, Charter Schools have to achieve more with less state and district funding per student than other public schools so each family’s participation is vital.

Consequently, Pacifica requires the following participation of its families, in addition to its aforementioned parent/family job(s):

  • Participation in the school’s governance (i.e. standing committees, or Councils)
  • Attendance at all whole-school community meetings each year (several a year)
  • Attendance at all parent education workshops (several a year)
  • Attendance at parent group meetings for your child’s class

With your support, we can support our kids at a level that is most beneficial to their growth and development.

One of my favorite things about Pacifica is that I get to actively participate in my daughter’s educational community.  I know of other schools in the area where parents are not allowed in the classrooms during the school day, and they certainly don’t actively shape their school’s direction and growth.
