Our Charter
Did you know that there are currently 750 charter schools serving 266,000 charter school students in California? And that over the past 10 years, California charter schools have consistently grown by an average of 50 schools a year?
What is all the fuss about?
It is simple. Research shows that charter schools do a better job increasing student achievement than traditional public schools.
What are charter schools? Charter schools are elementary or secondary schools that receive public money from their local school district, but are freed from some of the rules that apply to other public schools in exchange for some type of accountability for producing certain results, which are set forth in the school’s charter.
The charter approach uses market principles from the private sector, including accountability and consumer choice, to offer new public sector options that remain nonsectarian and non-exclusive, a tradition that Pacifica proudly upholds.
The Charter Schools Act of 1992, quite simply, allows charter schools the freedom to make quick and effective changes to respond to students’ needs. And according to a 2007 USC field study, charter school parents report a high level of satisfaction with charter schools for just this reason.
